Choosing the right Manager/Agent is not always easy. Whatever you decide will affect your career.

Theatrical Managers/Agents concentrate on Films, Television and Theatre, whereas Commercial Agents handle only Commercial projects. Some Managers/Agents handle both as well as Voice / Radio / Presenting & Corporate Videos. This type of Management/Agency is crucial to those Actors who wish to have a varied career as they are able to move in and out of working areas.

Be wary of the Manager/Agent who spends most of his time 'dining & signing'. Younger actors and actresses should be aware of those in power who seduce you with invitations to dinner, film premiers etc. whilst discussing your career. You need people who will work with you and who are interested in your career. Trust your 'instincts' not the 'lunch'; what is on the table is your career and finally you will also be paying the bill!

You will need to find out if they are experienced and successful, new and inexperienced or they run a 'shop window' that looks good but actually 'just turns over' actors. You gain nothing by being represented by an incompetent person or company - in fact you will lose a lot. Ask as many entertainment professionals as possible before deciding who will represent you.
