Never accept a 'time limit' by which a Manager/Agent wants your decision - give yourself time to make your decision. This decision in most cases is crucial. Never sign a contract on the spot and try not to at all - if you must it should only be for a maximum of one year. In America contracts often contain a clause which states that if the Manager / Agent doesn't find you work over a three month period then the contract is null and void. If you have to sign a contract insist on this clause.
Don't part with money when joining a Manager/Agency - a Manager or Agent should earn his/her commission by finding you work. If a Manager/Agent asks for money up front for signing, you should notify British Equity (or SAG in the USA).
When joining an Company make sure you know the Manager /Agent that you are signing with - is it the person you met with? Make sure you know how the company operates and how they intend to look after your career, whom you will be dealing with when you phone and so forth.
Managers/Agents should not pressure actors to attend any particular acting class, workshop or seminar for consideration as a client .
