What is Personal Management?
A personal manager advises and counsels their clients while making every effort to find them employment. If you need to talk to them they are available. They are responsible for anything that may enhance their client's career. From simple suggestions to complex negotiations and artists long term career goals.
Personal managers have the expertise to find and develop new as well as established talent. They create opportunities for the artists they represent. They act as a liaison between their clients and the public and other entertainment professionals e.g. publicists, lawyers, attorneys and in America, agents.
When you need support, a personal manager is the person who has the time to talk and believes in you.
Personal managers have a 'code of practice.' In the USA many belong to NCOPM and in the UK, the PMA. The 'code of practice' includes dealing honestly and fairly with their clients. Treating client relationships in a private and confidential manner. Not to encourage artists to break existing contracts or relationships. Receive income by way of commissions from finding employment their clients accept. They do not accept fees on the promise of trying to find work.
They need to be informed about industry practices, regulations and standards always staying up to date with the constant changes in the entertainment industry.
With the above responsibilities a personal manager needs to have the broadest possible experience in the entertainment industry. Only with experience and total commitment can a personal manager benefit clients helping to make the road smoother and the journey successful.
They care.
